Behind the EMBRACE Biotox Hub: A Video Series Exploring Europe’s Biotoxin Preparedness

Understanding how Europe prepares for and responds to biological toxin threats requires insight into science, policy, technology and coordination across sectors. To open up this complex work to a wider audience, the EMBRACE project has launched a dedicated video series titled Behind the EMBRACE Biotox Hub.

The series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the people, expertise and systems that underpin the EMBRACE project and its work on strengthening preparedness, response and decision-making in the context of biotoxin incidents. Through short, focused video presentations, viewers are invited to explore how different disciplines and perspectives come together within the Biotox Hub.

Making biotoxin preparedness accessible

Biological toxin preparedness is a highly specialised field, often perceived as complex and technical. One of the key objectives of the video series is to make this work more accessible by explaining core concepts, challenges and solutions in a clear and practical way.

Each episode features experts involved in EMBRACE, who share insights into their role within the project and the contribution of their work to the wider Biotox Hub. Topics covered across the series include scientific research, detection and analysis, decision-support systems, crisis-management approaches, and the importance of coordination between authorities, researchers and practitioners.

By focusing on real expertise and concrete examples, the series helps demystify how preparedness systems are designed and how they function in high-pressure scenarios.

Inside the Biotox Hub

The EMBRACE Biotox Hub is a central element of the project, bringing together data, tools, methodologies and expertise to support authorities and crisis managers. The video series reflects this integrated approach by showcasing the Hub not as a single system, but as a collaborative ecosystem.

Across the episodes, viewers gain a clearer understanding of how different components interact: how scientific findings inform operational tools, how modelling and analysis support decision-making, and how collaboration across borders and sectors strengthens overall resilience. The series highlights the value of shared knowledge and coordinated action in addressing biological risks that do not stop at national boundaries.

A growing collection of expert perspectives

Behind the EMBRACE Biotox Hub is designed as an evolving series. New episodes will continue to be added, each offering a fresh perspective on the project and its workstreams. Together, they form a growing library of expert insights that can be explored individually or as a complete playlist.

The full video series is available on YouTube, allowing viewers to watch at their own pace and return to specific topics of interest. The complete playlist can be accessed here.

By sharing the stories, expertise and thinking behind the EMBRACE project, the series contributes to greater transparency, understanding and engagement around biotoxin preparedness in Europe.
